Establishment of community fund or "GramKosh"
The "Gramkosh" or village bank is a cooperative experiment run entirely by the villagers. It provides loan to the villagers
for purchasing seeds and for farming. The region had suffered a severe drought in 2003. To fight the consequences, the health assembly held during Danteshwari jatra of 2004, had established a drought relief committee. SEARCH had offered to contribute towards the cost of purchase of the seeds to the extent of 50%. The villagers decided to accept this offer and promised repayment after the harvest. SEARCH suggested that it be treated as seed money for establishment of the Gramkosh in the village.
