  SEARCH developed a population based surveillance system to measure child mortality and developed verbal autopsy tools to determine causes of death
In 1988, SEARCH identified pneumona as the most frequent cause of death in rural children ( 100 villages in Gadchiroli district,)

Designed and conducted the field trial of "community-based management of pneumona." which reduced pneumona mortality by 55% and IMR by 25% in a very poor, malnourished population
